VICTORY: HB1318 OVERWHELMINGLY PASSES
$10 Motorcycle Fee Repealed

March 5, 2008 - A little before three o'clock on Tuesday March 4th,
the Indiana House of Representatives voted 94-0 in favor of
concurrence with Senate amendments to HB1318. This was the last step
necessary by the Indiana General Assembly.
We expect that Governor
Mitch Daniels will sign it into law soon. Additionally, we anticipate a
ceremonial bill signing in the next few weeks where a number of the
people that worked so hard on this issue may participate.
Ordinarily,
getting legislation passed would be a substantial accomplishment, getting
it passed in this short session when so many others have failed is nothing
short of remarkable. Many thanks go out to everyone that assisted in
this effort.

Large Crowd at Gina Coleman's Memorial Service
Creekside Ministries had the pleasure of hosting a beautiful Memorial
Service in honor of our dear friend/family member, Gina Coleman on
Saturday, April 15.  We experienced what it is like when one person
impacts so many people in a short 43 years.  More than 700 people
including about 30 ASL students from Carmel High School where Gina
taught for 2 years and before that Franklin Community High School for
a few years, poured into our sanctuary, lobby, and halls.  We will miss
Gina terribly in the Deaf Community including her church family at
Creekside and her wonderful students at Carmel High School.  Our
prayers are with Henry, her husband, Paul, her father, and Dave
(Janis)Tester and their children during this unexpected loss.  Yes, a
loss to this temporal earth that we live on but a wonderful gain to the
heavens!   We thank everyone who assisted us in making this wonderful
memorial service possible.

God bless,

Helmet-law discussion gears up as motorcycle deaths rise
(Excerpts from the Indianapolis Star)
At least 12 people have died in motorcycle crashes in Indianapolis and nearby
counties since April, leaving some to ask if it's time for a mandatory helmet law
in Indiana. Motorcycle deaths have climbed nationally in recent years after
states eased restrictions on helmet laws, according to a recent analysis of
federal accident reports by Gannett News Service. Sen. Thomas J. Wyss,
R-Fort Wayne, chairman of the Indiana Senate Committee on Homeland
Security, Transportation and Veteran Affairs, said he would hold hearings if a
mandatory helmet law is proposed next session. Helmet laws have inflamed
passions in Indiana since a mandatory helmet law was repealed in the 1970s.
Some motorcycle riders, including Gov. Mitch Daniels, have expressed staunch
opposition to mandatory helmet laws. "Daniels does not support mandatory
helmet laws but chooses to wear a helmet when he rides," said his spokeswoman,
Jane Jankowski.
